2016 Ford F-150 XLT vs 2016 Ford F-150 Lariat
Those looking for a full-size pickup truck that is packing power have a number of choices, but two of the best models in a mid-range price are the 2016 Ford F-150 XLT and F150 Lariat. Even though the two obviously have my similarities, there’s also some key differences between them that we’ll talk about -- which should make it much easier to decide which is for you.
One key difference that may sway people one way or the other is the available cab styles available to the 2016 Ford F-150 XLT and Lariat trims. The XLT can be purchased in any of the three variations: regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew. However, the Lariat is only available as a SuperCab and SuperCrew, and can’t be purchased as only a three-seater truck.

Differences between the 2016 F-150 XLT and Lariat Trims
Another major difference between the 2015 XLT and Lariat trims is what engine comes standard on them. The 2016 F-150 XLT comes with the 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine while the Lariat instead comes standard with a 2.7L EcoBoost V6. Both can put up similar numbers, however when equipped to provide the most towing possible the EcoBoost will outpull the other by about 1,000 lbs. Additionally, the 2.7L EcoBoost is also the most fuel efficient engine that you can put in the F-150, allowing for up to 26 MPG on the highway. The XLT can be equipped with the 2.7 EcoBoost, along with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and 5.0L V8 -- which are also available on the Lariat trim.
No matter which trim you end up deciding on, there’s one thing the two will have in common: this truck is built for work. You’d be hard pressed to find something that is tougher or more reliable, especially at the price. The 2016 XLT and Lariat trims can be equipped with a 5.5 ft, 6.5 ft, or extra long 8 ft. box to fill up with Ford’s astounding payload rating that can cap out at 3,270 lbs.
