The Ford Motor Company has certainly made strides recently in the production of all-electric vehicles. The F-150 Lighting, the Ford electric truck, has already sold out once, as has the Ford electric car, the Mustang Mach-E. We’ve also seen more Ford electric vehicles on our own Oshkosh and Appleton roads. And Ford is making massive investments by building colossal plants and facilities in North America for the manufacturing of electric vehicles and batteries. So, is Ford going all electric? Let’s take a closer look.
What Ford is Doing to Build an Electric Future
Ford intends to close the loop in the global supply chain for electric vehicle production by building two enormous manufacturing facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee. It’s $5.6 billion mega campus in Stanton, Tennessee, dubbed “Blue Oval City”, will sprawl out across nearly 6 square miles and be dedicated to the production of Ford electric vehicles and batteries, and is planned to be carbon neutral.
Its $5.8 billion complex in Kentucky will consist of twin plants that will manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. Together, the facilities represent the largest one-time investment in electric vehicle production in the U.S. In addition, Ford has built the Blue Oval™ Charge Network – the largest public charging network in North America offered by automotive manufacturers.
