Here’s a little something for the music lovers: Something pretty unique took place recently at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant. Five members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra paid a visit to the plant, where they proceeded to put on a performance amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday operations at the plant. It might seem like an unlikely pairing – symphony music and the production of new Ford vehicles, but we think they might be on to something.

After all, the level of coordination, planning, and simultaneous execution that makes an assembly plant run smoothly isn’t all that unlike the effort that goes into putting together a beautiful arrangement of sounds. Each individual must be performing at their best, each skill must be honed to perfection, and the timing has to be just right. It takes a talented team, each member equally invested in the overall product, working together seamlessly. We buy it!

2014-Ford-C-Max-CThe DSO members, all from the orchestra’s brass section, came together at the plant and played Johann Sebastian Bach’s Contrapunctus IX against a backdrop of steel, concrete, and diligent workers helping to make safe, durable Ford vehicles for drivers in the years to come. Both the musicians and the Ford employees were producing something of value, something that would endure, each in their own rights.

Which vehicles were being assembled at the plant during the concert? Two cars were rolling off the line: the Ford C-Max, Ford’s incredible hybrid that gets up to 42 city miles per gallon, and the popular Ford Focus, a car known throughout the auto world for its high standard of quality at an attractive price.

If you’d like to hear more from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra without making the trip to Detroit, the community-supported orchestra regularly features live webcasts of performances at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall – Check the schedule for upcoming events: http://www.dso.org/WebcastSchedule.aspx
