New Shelby GT350 Mustang

Ford Shelby GT350 Suspension and Brakes

This month, Ford’s been releasing more and more detailed specifications about the all-new Ford Shelby GT350, including an increasing number of details on the performance Mustang’s use of the latest technologies and engineering developments.

Significant improvements have been made to the Ford Shelby GT350’s suspension and brakes, as well as a number of other systems and components that stand to make this the best performance Mustang ever. We’ll give you a few of the key details that have been revealed.

First, we’ll take a look at the suspension. For the first time on a Mustang, the Shelby GT350 includes MagneRide dampers. These magnetically controlled shock absorbers are incredibly responsive and make for an exceptionally adaptive ride. The difference drivers feel will likely be one of those “you never knew what you were missing” experiences.

“When you are engineering the most track-ready Mustang of all time, you can’t take any shortcuts,” says Eric Zinkosky, suspension and vehicle dynamics technical specialist.

Where carbon ceramic rotors were once the standard, the engineers at Ford discovered that iron offered even more durability and improved performance as the rotor material. The GT350 underwent multiple endurance sessions of up to 24 hours in duration to help test the capability and lasting power of these incredible brakes. Test after test (some torturous), the brakes showed virtually no signs of fading.

Other Innovations

In addition to the improved suspension and braking, the Shelby GT350 has an improved chassis — stiffened and reinforced to provide a base more rigid than anything seen before on a Mustang model, making it more ready for the track than any of its predecessors.
