What Is the Best Selling Truck In the United States for 2017?
It’s one thing for a model to earn a spot as the best selling vehicle for a year or two. That’s a great accomplishment, but what if a particular model was the best selling vehicle in its respective segment for an entire decade? That would be impressive. But, let’s take things even further… what if a model was named the best selling vehicle in its segment for 40 consecutive years? Well, that’s exactly what the Ford F-Series has accomplished, as it was named the best selling truck in the United States for 2017.
Every year since 1977, the Ford F-Series has earned its title as the best selling truck in America, having sold a total that exceeds 26 million vehicles. Not only that, but the Ford F-Series has also been named the best selling vehicle, period, for 35 years. It’s pretty clear that nothing says “American truck” more than the Ford F-Series.
How Has the Ford F-Series Changed Over the Years?
The Ford F-Series has been around for a long, long time. In fact, the 1977 model year was the sixth generation of the F-Series, featuring the new F-150 light-duty pickup and a 351-series V8 engine.
Of course, just as the times change, so do the trucks. The 7th generation of the F-Series saw an all-new offering with twin I-beam front suspension. It wasn’t until 1999 that America saw the new F-250 and F-350 Super Duty brand trucks, splitting off from the F-150.
According to Ford Truck Group Marketing Manager Todd Eckert, it is the F-Series’ adaptability that has made it so successful for so long:
“What’s made the F-Series so successful is the Ford truck team’s ability to anticipate the needs of our customers better than anyone else – how those needs change, what’s most important, and what they need to move forward.”
