How to Set Up the HomeLink Garage Door Opener In Your Ford
Garage door openers probably don’t get all the credit they deserve for making your life easier, but anyone who has had a broken one likely knows just how much they would miss these little devices if they were gone. That being said, traditional garage door openers can be easy to misplace or just take up room hanging off your front seat visor. But for those who know how to set up the HomeLink garage door opener in their Ford, the convenience of a garage door opener just became even more… well, convenient.

Ford HomeLink Garage Door Opener Guide
It should be easy for you to determine if your vehicle has the HomeLink system. You’ll be able to locate three garage door opener buttons along your visor, accompanied by an icon that looks like a house. Now that you know if your vehicle has the system, turn the vehicle on and take out your old garage door opener, and we’ll show you to program HomeLink.
- Hold your old garage door transmitter next to the HomeLink buttons in your vehicle (no further than a couple inches).
- Press and hold the transmitter button and the HomeLink button you want to assign the garage door to at the same time. Watch the light on the HomeLink system. When it shifts from a slow blink to a fast blink, you can release the buttons.
- Press and hold the HomeLink button again, by itself, for 5 seconds. Once you release the button, your garage door should move. If it doesn’t, repeat step 3. If it still isn’t working, move on to step 4.
- If the light on the HomeLink system is on, the programming should be complete. If it flashes before shifting to a continuous light, however, you will need to access the garage door opener motor within your garage. First, press and hold the learn button on your garage door opener motor.
- Then, within 30 seconds, press and hold the HomeLink button for 2 seconds. Once you release it, press and hold the button again for 2 seconds.
