What Can Forward Collision Warning Do?

So, first of all, what can the system actually do? Well, it’s designed to warn you when you are approaching a vehicle too quickly. If there is a vehicle in front of you that you are coming up behind at a fast rate, the Forward Collision Warning may detect that there is the potential for a collision and warn you.

The Brake Support aspect of the system goes into effect only when it is absolutely necessary. Before you even apply the brakes, the Brake Support system will ensure that you have full braking force available to you.

How to Use Forward Collision Warning?

Thankfully, there really isn’t anything you have to learn in order to use the Forward Collision Warning system with Brake Support. The system will automatically work for you. That said, it can be helpful to know how the system works and operates so that you can understand what it is doing for you and how you should react to it.

When the system detects a potential collision in front of you, via a radar sensor at the front of the vehicle, a red warning light will illuminate on the windshield in front of you. You will also hear a warning sound. This is the vehicle alerting you to slow down. If you don’t slow down and continue moving closer to the vehicle, Brake Support kicks in to pre-charge your brakes, which will provide you with full braking power even if you lightly apply the brake pedal. This allows the brakes to respond faster in case you need to stop abruptly.

If you are finding that the system is too sensitive for your driving preferences, you can adjust it. You’ll need to access the settings menu in the digital display within the instrument cluster, then use the arrows on the steering wheel to select “Pre-Collision,” then “Alert Sensitivity” and then select High, Normal or Low. You can also turn the system off.
