You can tell a lot about a vehicle and its intended use by simply looking at the base model. The Edge comes to the plate swinging with an impressive twin-scroll 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with plenty of power. With 245 horsepower and an astounding 275 pound-feet of torque, it can leave other crossovers in the dust.

What comes with the SEL trim level?

How about efficiency? This is an EcoBoost engine, so of course it’s efficient. When equipped with auto start/stop technology it can get 21-city mpg and 29-highway mpg. This technology is only available on the base SE trim. This particular engine comes standard on the SE, SEL, and Titanium, and without auto start/stop technology it still gets 20-city mpg and the same 29-highway mpg. If you decide to upgrade to AWD, then you still get 20-city mpg and 27-highway mpg.

Is there a V6 engine available for the Edge?

For many auto manufacturers, the V6 engine is disappearing, but that’s not true for Ford. In fact, you can still find V6 engines in many of Ford’s 2018 vehicles. What about the Edge? Of course it has a V6 engine. In fact, both the SEL and the Titanium trims have an optional 3.5-liter V6 powerplant that is ridiculously impressive.

When it comes to performance, this engine has 280 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque on tap. This engine is still available with both FWD and AWD configurations. Efficiency is still present with 17-city mpg and 26-highway mpg with FWD and 17-city and 23-highway mpg with AWD.

You may have noticed that the top Edge Sport trim hasn’t even been mentioned yet, and that’s because it gets its own engine, and this time not only is it a V6 but a turbocharged V6. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine delivers the best performance with 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 gives the Edge 17-city mpg and 24-highway mpg. The Sport trim is only available with AWD, and with that considered, these fuel economy numbers are all the more impressive.
