Differences between the Ford Fusion and Taurus
Ford actually has two sedan-only models available in its current lineup. They are the Taurus and the Fusion. What are the differences between the Ford Fusion and Taurus? Mostly it comes down to size and price with the Taurus being both larger and having a higher MSRP, but we will dive into all the details below.
Interior room of the Ford Taurus and Fusion
Before we get to the interior, let’s take a peek at the exterior very quickly. Though both models share a similar wheelbase at about 112 inches, the Taurus is over 11 inches longer and over 4 inches wider. On the inside, both provide seating for five, but the Fusion actually has slightly more passenger room with 103 cubic-feet of passenger volume compared to the Taurus with 102 cubic-feet of passenger room.

The interior dimensions are pretty different though. The Taurus tends to be wider in most interior dimensions and the Fusion tends to be longer. In other words, the Taurus will give you more hip room, and the Fusion will give you more leg room. If the trunk space is important to you though, the Taurus wins with 20.1 cubic-feet compared to the Fusion with 16 cubic-feet of cargo room.
Does the Taurus have a larger engine than the Fusion?
As you may or may not know, both the Taurus and the Fusion come standard as front-wheel-drive cars in 2018, but both also offer AWD options. What’s under the hood though? Well, they are both impressive.

The Fusion’s list of engine options is dominated by 4-cylinder engines with the most impressive 4-cylinder able to pump out 231 horsepower, and the most efficient non-hybrid option able to provide 23-city mpg and 34-highway mpg. The Fusion also offers a V6 engine option on the Sport trim that provides up to 325 horsepower.
The Taurus engine lineup starts with a 288-horsepower V6 that gets 18-city mpg and 27-highway mpg. However, the top Taurus SHO trim gets a special V6 that pushes the performance up to 365 horsepower. If performance in your Ford sedan is really important, the Taurus does offer advantages.
Does the Taurus have better features than the Fusion?
For the most part, all the technology and options that can be found on the Taurus can also be found on the Fusion.
Both have available leather seats, both have available high-tech features like adaptive cruise control, and both offer FordPass™. Ultimately it will come down to which model has the right capabilities for your needs.
