Do you need a license to fish in Wisconsin?
You sure do need a license and don’t be surprised when an officer of the DNR actually checks to make sure you have yours. Getting a fishing license in Wisconsin is easy, just check the link below.
Some fish such as trout and salmon require their own license, but for most fish in the Winnebago system outside of sturgeon, a general fishing license will be perfect. There are even special rates available for juniors, seniors, and first-timers.

What lakes are in the Winnebago system?
Though Lake Winnebago is huge in itself, the Winnebago system is actually much larger and includes the connected neighboring lakes of Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Poygan, Lake Winneconne, Partridge Lake, Partridge Crop Lake, Cincoe Lake, and of course, Lake Winnebago itself.

There are tons of varieties of fish in the Winnebago system, and some of them are subject to catch limits and even size limits. For example, bullheads have no minimum length and an unlimited bag limit. On the other hand, largemouth and smallmouth bass must be at least 14-inches long, and you can only catch 5 a day.
