Why do these performance models ignore convertible options? There is actually an interesting reason, and it all comes back to performance. When you are building a convertible, considerable work has to be done to strengthen the frame because a traditional hardtop actually transfers a lot of the twisting forces on the chassis to the roof.
This is why convertibles, despite having a lighter roof, are typically heavier than their hardtop counterparts. That coupled with the added power of these performance models means that a convertible car isn’t always ideal for extreme performance applications like the Shelby GT350.
