Used Book stores in Fond du lac, WIThere’s nothing quite like the feel of a used bookstore. Bookshelves line the walls and the smell of old paper wafts through the air.  It can be hard to leave with just one book! Next time you’re in Fond du Lac, you’ll want to stop by one of the area’s used bookstores, where you might find a gift for a friend, a children’s title for your little ones, or your next favorite novel.

  1. Chapter 52

This bookstore-within-a-library is found next door to the Fond du Lac Public Library Main Library building. The convenient downtown location is a fun spot for an afternoon date, a quick stop during a shopping day, or even a weekend destination. You can find used books, movies, magazines, and music, all at low, low prices.

Chapter 52 also accepts donations of used materials. Labeled donations can be left at the library’s circulation desk. If you would rather donate your time, contact the library to inquire about volunteering. Local authors are invited to hold meet and greets and book signings at the bookstore.

Chapter 52 Bookstore is open Monday through Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On “Two for Tuesdays,” you can choose two similar items for the price of one, while Wednesdays are Senior Citizen Days when shoppers 55 and older can shop for half price. Major credit cards are accepted.

  1. AAUW Used Book Sale

For many shoppers and book lovers, the AAUW Used Book Sale is a highlight of the year. Started in 1961, the sale generates money to fund local scholarships. In 2019, nine scholarships were issued from the sale’s proceeds.

The sale occurs each March at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. Thursday is a special preview day, followed by a full day on Friday, a “half-price day” on Saturday, and a “fill up a box day” on Sunday. Books are the sale’s centerpiece, but audiobooks, jigsaw puzzles, CDs, DVDs, records, toys, and games are also on offer. Expect hundreds of tables and thousands of books. This is one sale you don’t want to miss.

  1. St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store

St. Vincent de Paul of Fond du Lac County has been voted the Best Thrift and Antique Store in the Fond du Lac area since 2013. The Thrift Store features a large collection of used books, magazines, and cookbooks. Of course, if you stop by to thumb through the books, you can also pick up furniture, housewares, jewelry, and clothing! What other used bookstore can say that?

The store is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sales are offered throughout the month, including special offers for Vinny Club Card holders. The store accepts donations and volunteer hours to support both the store and the other services the group provides.

Next time you’re craving a new novel, memoir, or non-fiction read, check out one of Fond du Lac’s options for used books. You’ll be supporting your book habit and the local community at the same time.
