We’re proud supporters of our local police department here at Holiday — we’ve worked with the Cops for Kids program in the past, and we’re always grateful to see our uniformed men and women out there playing their huge and important role in keeping our community safe. We’re also interested in the latest in police vehicles and police vehicle technology, of course. That’s why it was especially cool for us to see Ford unveil the new 2016 Ford Police Interceptor at the Chicago Auto Show last week.
Today we’ll share with you some of the highlights of this new police vehicle from Ford:
New Design. This is an aesthetic improvement more than a functional one (for the most part, anyway), but hey — the cops want a nice looking vehicle, too. A new front and rear design brings the 2016 Interceptor into the current generation of vehicles.
Liftgate release switch. Front seat passengers can open up the rear cargo area with the push of a button, and the cargo area can be accessed for 45 seconds — after that, it locks back up for security.
Rear camera. You can view what’s behind you on a 4-inch screen located in the center stack, or as another option, it will appear in the rear view mirror.
Standard V6. The 2016 Ford Police Interceptor comes with a 3.7-liter V6 that gets you 304 horsepower. If that’s not quite enough for you, there’s also the optional 3.5-liter EcoBoost offering 365 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard on all Interceptor models.
Pursuit mode. Here’s one that’s specially developed for police vehicle use, and it’s easy to see why. A feature of the standard six-speed automatic transmission in the Interceptor, Pursuit Mode optimizes up- and downshifting for aggressive driving in necessary situations.
Available technologies in the 2016 Ford Police Interceptor include the SYNC hands-free information and communication system, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), cross-traffic alert, and reverse sensing.
