2018 Ford EcoSport Cargo Capacity and Capabilities
Though we are all still eagerly awaiting the on-sale date for the 2018 Ford EcoSport, that doesn’t have to keep us from speculating about what we’ll find from the model once it arrives. In fact, Ford has already been revealing bits of information that certainly increases driver excitement, such as the EcoSports cargo capacity and capabilities.
Now, official maximum cargo capacity figures are not yet available, and probably won’t be until we get much closer to the vehicle’s release date. That said, a new innovation from Ford has given us some details about just how much weight you can put in the rear cargo area… and it comes from bees.

How Much Weight Can the 2018 Ford EcoSport Carry?
That’s right… we are talking about those black and yellow winged things. Although bees didn’t visit the Ford design offices themselves, Ford has taken some inspiration from the way bees design the honeycomb when it comes to designing the cargo shelf in the upcoming EcoSport.
The new EcoSport will have an adjustable cargo floorboard that is made of 100% recycled paper honeycomb. Paper doesn’t sound very strong, but when it’s designed in such a unique way, it’s strong than you think. In fact, Ford has said that the cargo floorboard can carry nearly 700 pounds of cargo. To give you an idea of what that amounts to, Ford has said it is roughly equal to five bags of concrete (94 pounds each), four large bags of top soil (40 pounds each) and eight individual gallons of water (a little more than 8 pounds each).

That’s a lot of cargo, and that means you’ll be able to carry a whole lot in the 2018 Ford EcoSport thanks to the unique cargo capacity and capabilities delivered by its cargo floorboard.
