Ford SYNC 3 lets you use Siri while you drive!
Though Ford models with SYNC 3 now come with Apple CarPlay, Ford gives us another method for using hands-free tech to keep our eyes on the road. Not long ago, Ford made an update available for SYNC-equipped vehicles (dating back to 2011 model-year vehicles) that let them make use of Apple’s Siri technology from their iPhone. Now, drivers can still access Siri using Siri Eyes Free, with the benefit being that they won’t have to connect to the Apple CarPlay system to do so. How to connect your iPhone to Ford SYNC
If you own an Apple iPhone and have a vehicle with Ford SYNC 3, then we highly recommend either using Siri Eyes Free or the Apple CarPlay system for safer connectivity while on the go. For some, Siri Eyes Free may be an easier method, allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of Siri while keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, without the need to hook up to Apple CarPlay.

To make use of this, all you have to do is connect your iPhone to Ford SYNC 3 via Bluetooth. We’ve written about how to do this before, but don’t hesitate to call us or swing by if you’re having difficulty getting it to work.
What can Siri with Ford SYNC 3 do?
So what exactly can Siri all do when working with Ford SYNC 3 and how does it benefit you? Well, using Siri Eyes Free means that with just the simple press-and-hold of the voice recognition button on the steering wheel (or pressing the phone icon on your touchscreen followed by the Siri tile), you can use your voice for various Siri requests and tasks, including:
- Making phone calls
- Looking up Restaurant information
- Setting a reminder or alarm
- Looking up weather conditions
- Selecting and playing music
- Navigation through Apple Maps
- Sending and receiving texts

Can I use Siri in my Car?
If your vehicle is equipped with the second generation Ford SYNC system, commonly known as MyFord Touch, from the model years of 2011 to 2016 — then the download and upgrade should be available to you! You can access it here. Anyone with the latest SYNC 3 system, however, will require no additional upgrade to access Siri Eyes Free along with Apple CarPlay.
