Ford warning lights meaning

Do you have a strange light illuminating the dash of your Ford? Then we should be able to help. Here, we will explain the meaning of Ford warning lights through pictures, text, and even a video. Don’t let that warning light be a mystery.

What Ford warning lights should you worry about?

Ford Powertrain Fault Warning Light
Ford Service Engine Soon Warning Light
Ford Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light
Ford Engine Oil Warning Light
Ford Battery Warning Light

These five lights are the showstoppers. If you have any of these illuminated on your dash then you should get ready to get service. In fact, for every light except the battery light, you should pull over as soon as you can do so safely.  Fault and service lights will require a mechanic to take care of. In some instances, the vehicle may still be safe to drive for a time, but you should let a mechanic make that call.

If it’s your engine coolant temperature light, you should let you vehicle cool off before using it. Unless it’s an extremely hot day and your vehicle is bearing a heavy load, you should get this issue looked at as soon as possible. An oil light can be something as simple as needing to add some oil, however if it’s a persistent issue, or if your vehicle doesn’t need oil, you should seek a mechanic.

A battery light is still a major issue, but you should turn off all accessories, and try to get where you are going or even take it straight to a mechanic. There is a possibility that your battery is dead, and if that’s the case, you may not be able to start it back up again.

What are ford Park Brake lights?

These two lights seem very similar, but they are actually very different. The brake system light is merely telling you that your parking brake in engaged while your ignition is on. This is perfectly normal, especially if you are in the habit of engaging your parking brake when parking. Just make sure to disengage it before you head out.

This second light may look a little less intimidating, but the electric park brake light actually indicates a parking brake malfunction. You should take your Ford in for service as soon as possible to ensure that you have a healthy parking brake for when you need it.
