Winter Car Prep
Here at Holiday Ford, we specialize in selling you capable cars, crossovers, SUVs, trucks, and work vehicles that can get the job done — whatever your current task at hand may be — in season after season. That said, some vehicles are certainly better suited to weathering the weather than others. You’ll probably feel a little more secure in an 4×4 Expedition than a small sedan, but with that being said, there are still measures you can and should take no matter what you drive. Here are our winter car prep tips before those roads get covered in ice and snow!
1. Fluid levels are important year-round, of course, but it’s especially crucial during winter to make sure you’ve got the a freshly cleaned, flushed, and topped-off supply of antifreeze. The clean/flush part should be done about every two years, so you’re probably good if you had it done last year but do have it double-checked by a trusted technician to be sure you’re good to go. Oil, wiper fluid, and gas are other fluids you’ll want to keep in mind. Due for an oil change? The time is now. Make sure you’re not running your gas too low during the colder months as fuel economy can be significantly decreased.
2. Have emergency supplies on hand. Make sure you’ve got things like jumper cables, tire chains, some road salt or cat litter to help add traction if you get stuck, as well as extra warm clothes, boots, and blankets. Some food and water might be nice to have on hand, as well, and an emergency cell phone battery pack certainly has the potential to come in quite handy.
3. Finally, take your car in for a check-up before winter fully sets in on us to make sure your tire pressure, alignment, brakes, and other systems are ready for the harsher conditions that we know all too well here in Wisconsin. Feel free to bring it by our service center here at Holiday Ford and let us give it a thorough inspection.
