Every year Ford makes changes both big and small to its F-150 truck that gets us eager for it to hit our lot upon release. The switch to an aluminum body on the Ford F-150 in 2015 was a huge change, but the upcoming changes for the 2017 Ford F-150 are also looking substantial! While much is still unknown, we do know that we’ll get to see a new engine and transmission in the 2017 Ford F-150.

New engine in the 2017 F-150

The 2017 Ford F-150 will have a new second-generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine available to equip under the hood. The new 3.5L EcoBoost offers some upgrades over the current one, including 30 lb-ft more peak torque for up to 450 lb-ft of torque. We currently don’t know whether or not there will be any changes to the horsepower in the 3.5L F-150, but either way we’re guessing that the 2017 F-150 will remain your best option when looking for a truck with both towing power and highway efficiency.

Ford will also be pairing a new 10-speed automatic transmission along with the second generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6. When behind the wheel of the new 2017 F-150 you’ll notice an increased acceleration as well as overall performance. Fuel efficiency is another big reason why the 10-speed automatic is being put into the 2017 Ford F-150 — and it’s actually the first Ford gearbox that doesn’t use cast-iron for its components, which saves on weight.
