2015 Ford F-150 Towing Ability

We recently brought you the first of Ford’s You Test video series, in which real drivers with work to be done are testing the new 2015 Ford F-150 in a variety of fields to see how it holds up in a number of rigorous tests. In the first one, the truck was tested in the desert and given treatment similar to that of military vehicles that are normally taken out into that climate and run over an extended period of time to make sure they’ll hold up. Now for this latest video, the question of the 2015 Ford F-150’s towing ability is what gets put to a serious test.

The Marrinan Ranch in Camas Prairie, Montana was the perfect setting for the Ford F-150’s real towing capacity to be put to the test. The goal: move hundreds of thousands of pounds of hay across the ranch –  a job usually reserved for Super Duty trucks. Would the new 2015 Ford F-150 be up to the task.

Ford F-150 testerRancher John Marrinan had some concerns over whether the significant weight dropped by the 2015 F-150 would affect the truck’s ability to tow effectively and to hold up over hours of punishing work. His doubts were certainly understandable, but F-150 Vehicle Dynamics Supervisor for Ford Keith Weston assured him that the F-150 was not losing any of its towing ability along with the pounds of steel.

In the end, the 2015 Ford-150 was able to help the rancher move 320 bales of hay –  around 480,000 pounds in total –  and held up to the challenge. The rancher was quick to point out that if the 2015 F-150 can compete with heavier duty trucks and provide improved fuel economy, it’s going to be a real asset for a lot of working people. When can you get behind the wheel of the 2015 Ford F-150 to put it to your own test? Stay tuned –  We’ll be sure to let you know!
