In order to receive an award for being a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ a vehicle must have an available feature that contributes to front crash prevention. In the 2017 Ford Fusion this is its Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. What this feature does is alert the driver of a possible collision while also increasing the braking power of the Fusion. If a collision seems imminent, then the Ford Fusion will automatically apply the brakes.
