After the big release of the Apple Watch in April, we put together a post detailing what we knew about how the new device would be able to integrate with Ford vehicles moving forward. As the major players in smartphone operating system technology –  Google and Apple, in case there was any doubt who we meant –  continue to work with automakers for a more seamless and ultimately more functional experience for drivers, we naturally want to know how our own Ford models of the future will be adapting. For example, will Ford have Apple CarPlay?

With the new Ford SYNC system becoming standard on new Ford models in the next year or so, we know that big changes are ahead for the Ford in-car experience. The SYNC system is slated to more closely mirror the intuitive user experience of a smartphone or tablet, making it easier than ever for drivers and passengers to use the navigation system, adjust audio, or take advantages of apps that are available through the system.

Ford SYNC Apple CarPlay integrationWhen it comes to integrating Apple CarPlay, it would appear that there is definitely something in the works for the SYNC system, as Ford is listed as an Apple CarPlay partner. The goal, however, is to continue giving drivers the maximum amount of personal choice when it comes to which devices they want to use. So, Ford vehicles using the SYNC system will also have compatibility with Android devices, and the SYNC system itself will have plenty of functionality on its own.

The idea on Ford’s part is that you should be able to use whatever device you want –  or no device at all outside of SYNC –  and be able to have a great in-car infotainment experience. As we gather more information about how Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and other systems will integrate Ford SYNC, we’ll keep you posted!
