Towing in the Ford Edge
The 2016 Ford Edge comes with the ability to tow up to 3500 lbs when equipped with the optional Class II Trailer/Tow package. There are three available engines that you can find in the 2016 Ford Edge: a 2.0L EcoBoost I-4, a 3.5L Ti-VCT V6, and a 2.7L EcoBoost V6. The 2.0L I-4 starts with a base towing rating of 1500 lbs and the 3.5L V6 starts at 2,000 lbs of trailering weight. Both can be equipped with the towing package to increase their capacities to 3,500 lbs.
The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is only available on the premium, sporty model of the Edge: the 2016 Ford Edge Sport trim. It offers an unrivaled driving experience with its 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, the 2.7L V6 also sacrifices on some towing capacity, and is only available with the base rating of 2,000 lbs.

Features in the Ford Edge that help with towing
In addition to upping the maximum towing rating of the Ford Edge to 3,500 lbs, the Class II Towing Package also comes with Trailer sway control. The system is designed to recognize when a trailer begins to sway and will apply precise braking or reduce torque to make sure both the trailer and the Ford Edge stay in your control. Maintaining a proper tire pressure becomes even more important when towing, and thankfully an individual tire-pressure monitoring system is standard on the Ford Edge — so you can make sure each tire is ready to hit the road with the additional weight of a trailer.
