Why Doesn’t My Ford Have a Gas Cap?

Why New Ford Vehicles Don’t Have Traditional Gas Caps When you go to fill up your new Ford in Oshkosh for the first time, don’t panic: your new Ford’s gas cap isn’t missing! Your Ford doesn’t have a gas cap. Instead, it comes with Ford’s Easy Fuel® Capless Fuel Filler. In place of a gas cap, the new capless fuel filler has two locking flaps to keep your fuel in as you fill up. We at Holiday Ford have put together a brief guide on the fueling technology to go over how to use it, what the advantages are, and how to refill from a portable gas tank. How to Fill Up a Ford Without a Gas Cap Using a capless fuel filler from Ford while filling up around Appleton is simple. Open the fuel door like you normally would, then push the fuel pump nozzle past the little flap. Once through, keep pushing until you feel it pop past the second flap, then you can fill up as normal. Once you’re done pumping, let the nozzle rest for five seconds before removing. This will help keep the area between the flaps clear of fuel. Advantages of Not Having a Gas Cap There are a lot of advantages to having a capless fuel filler on your Ford. One of the biggest not having to mess around with a gas cap. Without it, you don’t have to worry about losing it, or leaving it dangling against your sensitive paint. Overall, the system is also simply easier to use, and even those with arthritis shouldn’t have a problem operating it. Not only is it easier for the user, but it’s also harder for thieves. With the gas cap replaced by the mechanisms involved in a capless fuel filler, it is virtually impossible to steal gas out of a tank. Filling Up Your Ford With a Portable Gas Tank Without a Gas Cap Due to the auto-locking nature of the fuel filler in your Ford, you can’t fill up from a portable gas tank like you normally would. Instead, you need to use a special funnel that Ford included with your vehicle. In most vehicles, this funnel can be found in your trunk or cargo area. Refer to the manual for more specific details. In order to fill up, simply insert the funnel through both flaps, just like you would a fuel pump nozzle. Then pour gasoline into the funnel being careful not to overflow the funnel. As with a fuel pump nozzle, allow it to drain for five seconds before removing. Discover More Ford Technology at Holiday Ford in Fond Du Lac! Now that you know why your Ford doesn’t have a gas cap, you can fill up at your local Campbellsport gas station with confidence. What Does the L on the Ford Focus Gear Shift mean?

Most people in Oshkosh can easily identify the P, R, N, and D symbols that appear on the gear shift of an automatic car, but have you ever noticed that many cars on Fond Du Lac roads, including the Ford Focus, will have extras in addition to those? For instance, what does the L on the Ford Focus Gear Shifter mean? Continue reading with Holiday Ford to find out, and save on your next service visit by checking out our service specials. What Does the L on the Ford Focus Gear Shift Mean? If you’ve noticed an L on your Ford Focus gear shift, and it has made you confused, then we’re here to finally set the record straight on what it stands for. L is an abbreviation for Low, and putting your vehicle in Low will keep you in the lower gears when you drive, instead of automatically upshifting to 3, 4, or 5. Usually, the L on the Ford Focus will keep you in first gear, but in some vehicles, it will upshift to 2, but only if a certain speed is reached. Sometimes L might be replaced by a 1 or a 2 on your shifter as well, which means that your car will only stay in those gears. Other vehicles may also come with an S — standing for Sport Mode — which allows you to shift manually yourself. When Should You Use the L Gear on the Ford Focus? Keeping your vehicle in L or Low will keep your vehicle from accelerating the way you’re used to. Instead, you’ll be locked down into a lower speed, but you’ll have access to more power when you need it. This can be useful if you’re climbing a steep hill in your vehicle or driving on mountainous terrain. You can also use it when you’re starting your vehicle on a slippery surface, since having a lower speed and higher torque is helpful in situations like this.
