Ford Towing Guidelines and Trailer Safety

Know Before You Tow Before You Buy If you are selecting a vehicle that will be used for towing, you should determine the approximate weight of the trailer you intend to tow, including the weight of any additional cargo and fluids that you will be carrying in the trailer. Also, be sure the vehicle has the proper optional equipment. Keep in mind that performance can be severely affected in hilly terrain when the minimum acceptable powertrain combination is selected. Consider purchasing a vehicle with a more powerful engine. After You Buy Before heading out on a trip, check your vehicle Owner’s Manual for break-in and severe-duty maintenance schedules (do not tow a trailer until your vehicle has been driven at least 1,000 miles). Be sure to have your fully-loaded vehicle (including passengers) and trailer weighed so as not to exceed critical weight limits. If any of these limits are exceeded, cargo should be removed from the vehicle and/or trailer until all weights are within the specified limits. Brakes Many states require a separate braking system on trailers with a loaded weight of more than 1,500 pounds. For your safety, Ford Motor Company recommends that a separate functional brake system be used on any towed vehicle, including those dolly-towed or tow bar-towed. There are several basic types of brake systems designed to activate trailer brakes: Electronically Controlled Brakes usually provide automatic and manual control of trailer brakes. They require that the tow vehicle be equipped with a controlling device and additional wiring for electrical power. These brakes typically have a control box installed within reach of the driver and can be applied manually or automatically. Electric-Over-Hydraulic (EOH) Trailer Brakes are operated by an electrically powered pump that pressurizes a hydraulic fluid reservoir built into the trailer’s brake system. Many of the available EOH trailer brake models are compatible with the Ford factory installed, dash-integrated Trailer Brake Controller (TBC). Surge Brakes are independent hydraulic brakes activated by a master cylinder at the junction of the hitch and trailer tongue. They are not controlled by the hydraulic fluid in the tow vehicle’s brake system, and the tow vehicle’s hydraulic system should never be connected directly to the trailer’s hydraulic system. Be sure your trailer brakes conform to all applicable state regulations. Trailer Lamps Make sure the trailer is equipped with lights that conform to all applicable government regulations. The trailer lighting system should not be connected directly to the lighting system of the vehicle. See a local recreational vehicle dealer or rental trailer agency for correct wiring and relays for the trailer and heavy-duty flashers. Safety Chains Always use safety chains when towing. Safety chains are used to retain connection between the towing and towed vehicle in the event of separation of the trailer coupling or ball. Cross chains under the trailer tongue to prevent the tongue from contacting the ground if a separation occurs. Allow only enough slack to permit full turning – be sure they do not drag on the pavement. When using a frame-mounted trailer hitch, attach the safety chains to the frame-mounted hitch using the recommendations supplied by the hitch manufacturer. See your vehicle Owner’s Manual for safety chain attachment information. For rental trailers, follow rental agency instructions for hookup of safety chains. Trailer Wiring Harness Some vehicles equipped with a factory-installed Trailer Tow Package include a trailer wiring harness and a wiring kit. This kit includes one or more jumper harnesses (to connect to your trailer wiring connector) and installation instructions.

2020 Ford Mustang Review

Looking for a great American muscle car? Want an affordable price? We think you’ll love the selection of used Ford Mustangs at Holiday Ford. According to critics, used Ford Mustang reviews give the muscle car great marks that you want as a driver. We’ve collected a few quotes from 2020 Ford Mustang reviews, including an electric Ford Mustang review for the Mach-E SUV, to help you decide if this vehicle is right for your Oshkosh and Appleton drives! LEARN MORE VIEW INVENTORY Edmunds “In some ways, the 2020 Ford Mustang is as just as you'd expect it to be. It has rear-wheel drive, an available 5.0-liter V8 under the hood, and all sorts of factory options to make it faster, louder and more distinctive. What you might not expect about the Mustang is the way Ford has committed to the standard four-cylinder engine. Base Mustangs used to be underpowered and unloved but not anymore.” “The Mustang GT is impressively quick thanks to its gutsy V8. The brakes are also fittingly firm, giving you plenty of confidence to brake hard. In Edmunds testing, the GT covered 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and stopped from 60 mph in 118 feet. The steering effort changes depending on the drive mode you've selected. Regardless of mode, there's a good amount of feedback for the driver. Even without high-performance summer tires, the Mustang handles corners well thanks to well-managed body roll and impressive overall stability. The 10-speed automatic works very well, too. It picks the best gearing without seeming to be overly busy.” Car and Driver “Arguably one of the most recognizable cars of all time, the 2020 Ford Mustang continues to deliver eye-catching style and driving excitement. Its ability to be personalized and performance-enhanced also have endeared Ford's pony car to the public for more than 55 years. While the standard turbocharged four-cylinder might sound like a blasphemous choice for a muscle car, the EcoBoost model is legitimately enjoyable and affordable.” “We're mightily impressed with the EcoBoost Mustang's available performance packages, which finally give its powertrain a personality and something to compete with Camaro's track-ready models. Still, we're far from over our love affair with the V-8–powered Bullitt model, which we enjoyed in our long-term fleet. It may not be available as a convertible and costs significantly more than the base GT, but its unmistakable style and divinely balanced ride and handling make it the Mustang to get.” J.D. Power “Lurking beneath the hood of the 2020 Mustang Bullitt is a 5.0-liter V-8 that can make up to 480 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to run it on 93-octane gas to achieve these power outputs. The result is acceleration from zero to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, based on independent testing by other publications, combined with a Ford-claimed top speed of 163 mph. You’ll notice that those power peaks are fairly high in the rev range. As a result, depending on the situation and which gear the car is in, you might find yourself wishing for a little more oomph at lower revs. All it takes is a downshift to awaken the beast. Gift yourself with a deserted strip of pavement, and you can revel in the sensory assault of the engine screaming to redline with a joyous bellow as the car launches toward triple-digit speeds.” U.S. News “The 2020 Ford Mustang ranks near the top of the sports car class thanks in part to its balanced handling, potent engines, practical cabin, and good safety and predicted reliability scores.” “Yes, the 2020 Ford Mustang is a great used sports car that's agile and enjoyable to drive. It's available in coupe and convertible body styles with a range of engine options, from a punchy turbocharged four-cylinder to a trio of monstrous V8s. There's a Mustang for just about every taste. The interior is comfortable and well-trimmed, cargo space is plentiful, and the available touch-screen infotainment system is easy to use. Good safety and predicted reliability scores are the icing on the cake.” Car and Driver “The Mach-E is the best-looking vehicle in Ford's current lineup apart from the actual Stang, and it's also more attractive than the majority of crossovers.” “So the Mach-E is quick enough to carry the Mustang name. But we've driven a lot of Mustangs, and we don't like them just because they're quick. The Mustang lineup includes some of our favorite engines, with intoxicating exhaust notes and more character than any electric motor. They are also thrilling to drive. The Shelby models, in particular, deliver direct chassis responses and steering that's hyper-communicative, and the risk of getting bucked off the pavement due to your own inattention or lack of skill is quite real. Plus: those exhaust notes. Mustangs aren't for everyone, which is exactly why the idea of aiming the Mach-E at the masses is so controversial.” Test Drive a 2020 Ford Mustang for Sale Near Campbellsport Now that you’ve read about some 2020 Ford Mustang reviews, take your interest to the next level. When to use 4×4 High and Low in a Ford F-150

4 Hi vs. 4 Low in a Ford F-150: Why It’s Important Using the 4×4 drive on a Ford vehicle like a Ford F-150 or any of its great lineup of crossovers and SUVs is a great way to handle inclement weather that arises in the winter months of Oshkosh. But, there are different ways to use 4×4 systems, namely the 4 Hi and 4 Low options. These can get pretty confusing, so to make things easier, we’re going to define the difference between 4 Hi and 4 Low and when to use 4 Hi or 4 Low in a Ford F-150. NEW VEHICLES CONTACT US What Is the Difference Between 4 Hi and 4 Low? Terminology changes depending on who you’re talking to, but 4×4 is usually another way of saying four-wheel drive or 4WD. This means that power is going to all four wheels instead of just two, and work to increase traction. 4 Hi and 4 Low are meant for two different kinds of driving scenarios and driving speeds. But, both of them are very useful for tackling rough weather and difficult driving situations in Campbellsport. Note: if you’re planning on going highway speeds, then it is best if you keep your vehicle running in 4×4 auto as you could otherwise damage it. When to Use 4 Hi or 4 Low in a Ford F-150 You’ll likely want to reserve using 4 High in situations where you’re going more than 15 MPH but slower than 55 MPH. This mode is meant to apply more traction on snowy or icy roads. You can also use it for off-roading, but it’s not meant to be used in normal, dry driving conditions on a road. When you’re using 4 Low, maximum power is being sent to all four wheels. This mode is intended for very limited purposes, such as off-roading, steep grades, or pulling heavy objections behind you in a trailer. It’s recommended to stay under 15 MPH when driving in 4 Low. Flashing Red Car and Lock on Ford Dashboard

Ford Dashboard Symbols and Meanings Is your red car and lock symbol on your dashboard flashing? Don’t fret, the dashboard symbols on Ford vehicles exist for a reason, and that’s to alert you that your vehicle is having issues. But what exactly does this red car and lock symbol on the dashboard mean, and is it responsible for any maintenance issues you’re having? Take a look below to learn more about the flashing red car and lock on your dashboard and other dashboard symbols on Ford vehicles! What does the Red Car and Lock on the Dashboard mean? So what exactly is the flashing car and lock? This is actually your vehicle’s way of telling you that its engine immobilizer is armed and working properly. In a Ford, the immobilizer feature is known as SecuriLock, and works as a passive anti-theft device that disables your vehicle if someone tries to start it and drive it without your keys. It is completely normal to see the car and lock start flashing on your dashboard whenever you park and turn your vehicle off in Oshkosh. Some vehicles that are equipped with an alarm system will also use this icon to let you know that an alarm is active on your vehicle. How do you turn on SecuriLock in a Ford? The best part about the feature is that it isn’t something you need to worry about flipping on or off — it’s just always active. If you notice that the immobilizer light is no longer flashing on your dashboard, feel free to bring your car into Holiday Ford near Appleton and Campbellsport to get it checked out by our service team by scheduling an appointment. Discover a New Ford in Fond Du Lac Looking for a new Ford vehicle with SecuriLock in Fond Du Lac?
